Really???? That's all you got?

Tuesday, April 24th Treadmill day As much as I like to say I loath that machine, I also look forward to seeing what it can make me do Yeah, yeah, I get all you people who discredit a run where outside forces propel you- But hey, I bet you wouldn't call that dog chasing you to a new pr training run a cheat--- or what about that time you ran with an appointment breathing down your neck, and you ran wicked fast..... Outside forces? Right???? The run started out lovely And by lovely, I mean PAIN Yep, those minimal shoes from Friday really did a number on my calves I was still insanely tight Felt like my muscle would snap at any moment. Took about a mile of this "I think I'm going to rip something" feeling to subside. After that, a nice steady pace took over. I ramped my speed up for the middle 2.5 miles Then slowly ramped it back down to finish 4 I have a dentist appointment right afterwards... So a courtesy shower is in order

Going mini part 3

Sunday, April 21st Told myself I'd get an early 5 in before my Sunday walk with the gals. RunningMommaOf2 planned to run with me- but Saturday night found her feeling a little puny tummy-wise Alarm went off at a most ungodly hour- quite bold I thought- being that it WAS Sunday. I leaned over to hit snooze Now- You must know- I have my clock situated so as I have to get at least one leg out of bed to prop myself like a bridge across the divide that is the space between bed and alarm. Purposeful and useful This scenario has coaxed me out of bed and awake time and time again without incident - today however- it painfully reminded me that once upon a time I ran minimal. Yep Pain is still there and strong- I think I will go back to sleep Zzzzzzzz Alarm bridge Pain Snooze Zzzzzzzxx Alarm bridge Pain Snooze By the third time I'd hit snooze, I was getting tired of the routine, and hubby was tired of the sappy country music Apparently, crooning is not hi

Going mini part 2

Saturday, April 20th Friday night had me really feeling that morning run- My calves seemed to seize up All I could think about was foam rolling, But honestly, all I could think about was how painful foam rolling would be on top of the pain from the minimal shoe run Wow! This was intense- My hubby kept saying "You need to be careful- you don't want to injure yourself" Now- before you all say "I told you so- I told you, you needed transition slowly" Let me just say- "yes- I knew better" And Some things have to be learned the hard way I wasn't letting this insane calf cramping keep me from running over the weekend- Is there really anything better than a shake out run for muscle tightness anyway? What I really wanted was another run with friends- Saturdays are perfect for this, but lately schedules both running and non- have gotten in the way. If its not kids wrestling It's Kids baseball Or Hubby's work schedule O

My First Attempt at Sporting THE mini

Friday April, 20th Planning a run at the park this morning A last minute text from BlueSkyGirl finds she's planning the same. We meet, and wave to ViolinRunning's orange VW bug, who got there before us- We hope to cross paths along the way, her training has her running crazy fast. Thinking I'd be on a solitary run, and a little lethargic for it- I'd worn my minies to give them a whirl My minies- Merrel Barefoot Contour Glove   (click on the link above to take you to Zappos to read more on these shoes) I'd picked them up at the Goodwill for 6$ a few months ago I know that sounds weird But they showed absolutely no sign of wear And, not knowing how I'd do with something more minimal than my flows had me not wanting to spend an arm and a leg to find out. I'd used them a day or two here and there for walking around the house... But never a run Today would be the day to do it. We started off. The run was beautiful

Tuesday, April 17th I ran today. 3.67 miles Not a big number, but man- is it a big deal to me.     Go time would be a small window hollowed out between my a.m. work and picking up Moll's from kinder. Berg Park sounded nice. I ran Berg Friday with my friend Karalea, Had a blast But forgot to take a photo.... Today I'd remedy that     I started out Phone rings Have to take it- it's the weed guy Good thing too- He was spraying our rentals and the ditch on our land Had one of the addresses totally wrong Whew     I feel like a problem solver, and pat myself on the back for answering the phone.     Then I see the geese... The blond in me likes to call them ducks There they are, just standing in the middle of the road like they owned the place I like the framing on the first photo- notice how the arch of the trees mirrors the curve of the trees in the background They didn't like me taking their photo though-

No Running in the house- and No- I'm Not Running Tomorrow-

Seems like everyone's running these days. Or at least everyone and their mother was out running today. Don't believe me? Let's see- Today I saw: Fat Chick 'Too-short' shorts Old Man Scnhazzy Running Mama sporting cute outfit complete with matching jog stroller Oh- oh- or how about the -'barely running' walmart worker Running with her ipod & blue walmart vest- And dont forget-Hunky Dude Yep- Everybody's out running Everybody. But. Me. It's my own fault. I have every piece of running gear imaginable- Scads of shoes Tech tees Nathan sports belt SmartWool socks Compression tops Wireless headphones Garmin Blah blah blah But it doesn't even matter. There's no running in this house No running to be had Because, The procrastinating non-motivated side of me has come in- Sat down on the sofa that  was my willpower, Put up its feet, opened a bag of funyons & cracked a can of Shasta. Sigh I could have ru

Saturday April 7th, So--- Saturday rolls around- It's been 4 days since my last run, and slug doesn't even begin to describe the lifestyle that's so close to setting in because of it. I hit snooze, Then turn my alarm off altogether, thinking I'll sleep in just this ONE Saturday. Hubby says "you running today?" "Hmmm think so"- I say with a sleepy yawn and roll over for a few more zzzz's Five minutes later, hubs inquires again- "You running?" I blink awake, sit up and shake my head in disbelief with his new found talent of cattle prodding "Do YOU want me to run?" I ask. He mumbles something about how running is making me look and feel good, and blah blah blah blah Yeah I got stuck on the look good part Up and out Silly non- motivating chart says something about a 4 Miler as my long run. I know I'm supposed to relish the low miles and work on speed, but speed has been elusive, and there is sim

Monday, April 2nd Today I got to sneak in a run with my Sis-in-law, RunningMamaOf2. We choose to run up college to the top entrance to Lions wilderness- The run is chilly- Grey Windy Brrrrr We chat about running Races planned Her tri in 2 weeks! Eeek! We talk about how proud we are of her Sis that just ran HER first half- And how blessed we are with all the support and encouragement we have from friends and family. We make it to the top- I suggest we take a detour to the new BLM complex It has fun winding paths and overlooks stone outcroppings and pinion- I snap a pic We get an endomondo peptalk from BlueSkyGirl Then from RunningMommaOf2's Sis Makes us smile We finish out our run through Lions Wilderness- then home I promise coffee and Girl Scout Thin Mints if we finish strong- Nothing like a bribe to kick it in gear- Our last mile is our fastest I brew the coffee And feverishly look for the Thin Mints They were just here this mor

Sunday, April 1st Another early morning run. I'm beginning to really look forward to my early Sunday run, And the brisk walk at the park that follows A few of us have been walking the park regularly for the past few months on Sundays Adding a run before it seemed hard core at first, but now- a little luxury I have a lovely loop of a run that brings me down and around and almost 5 mile loop I've dubbed my "Sunday loop" ahhh it is nice. I text blasted to see if anyone else was game for the early morning madness.... but ended up this morning going solo. I worried that going it alone would make me hit snooze and forgo the run all together But the morning found me rested and eager to be out on my own to see what the run would bring. I decided to leave Penelope at home (garmin) And simply use my iphone endomondo app. As I headed up and out of the neighborhood, my headphones went a little wonky, cutting my music- I reset them, a
