My niche-

Saturday, May19th Hubby kicks me out the door... So glad he did too, I've been crabby from lack of running lately First mile is rough- I slow down and walk. All I can think about is the impossibility that lies before me Twin Cities Marathon Really? What was I thinking.... Here I am walking at mile 1 Sigh..... I'm beginning to think race organizers are brilliant You basically sign up for a race 9 months before you'll race. Oh the bravado that bubbled up as I signed in and took my place on that marathon roster. Surely the mere act of marathon registering earns me some kind of tough girl points. Nothing tough about me today- Ah, stuff it- If I'm going to walk, I'd best snap a pic. I snap a few- The simple act of stopping and looking for a fresh perspective Beauty. Nature. Blessings That's all it took. The rest of the run was slow and steady No complaining from me I'm going to just have to plug away at...

Horsing around running barefoot

So it's mother's day-- And all I can think about is how my kids are growing up I need to capture this time before it's gone forever. And then Moll's asks me to go for a run. I'm in the middle of cooking eggs and bacon- hash browns too Not the run worthy-est of times. "Run with  me mommy!"  She says "I promise I'm fast!" She adds, As if to reassure me we can make it around the block before the eggs burn. She'd just gotten a stick pony for her birthday, The gift she'd been hoping upon hope to get. Prancing around the house with it, she'd discovered it gave her power to go fast. Anxious to prove it was no mere accident, a jaunt with mom was in order. "Come on! Run with me mommy!" She says again. Cook top on low, we head out. Pony is fast- I'm surprised by Molly's stamina. She claims it's not her- it's her horse. Long side of a block down, I stop to turn ...

Give me back my relish!

Wednesday, May 16th It's been over three weeks since I last posted. Not since I last ran...mind you- Tho the running has been somewhat less than stellar as of late. Life is here. Right here. All around me. Some days I embrace the busyness of birthdays, school programs, recitals and field trips Relish the little things - snapshots in time Other times I see my life as pure chaos, and shy away from the madness that is motherhood Then feel a little guilty for locking the bathroom door. Running? Hmmmm, yes, I should be doing that. And have...... here and there. Nothing to write home about. So I haven't. And that's really where the problem lies. Pinterest running boards and Nike tell me that every mile matters. If that's true, I'm a bit behind on sharing- So, I'm back. Back to show you a few things from the last 3 weeks runnings.... Back to tell you the madness and chaos and relish-y little things are so worth this journey- ...

Really???? That's all you got?

Tuesday, April 24th Treadmill day As much as I like to say I loath that machine, I also look forward to seeing what it can make me do Yeah, yeah, I get all you people who discredit a run where outside forces propel you- But hey, I bet you wouldn't call that dog chasing you to a new pr training run a cheat--- or what about that time you ran with an appointment breathing down your neck, and you ran wicked fast..... Outside forces? Right???? The run started out lovely And by lovely, I mean PAIN Yep, those minimal shoes from Friday really did a number on my calves I was still insanely tight Felt like my muscle would snap at any moment. Took about a mile of this "I think I'm going to rip something" feeling to subside. After that, a nice steady pace took over. I ramped my speed up for the middle 2.5 miles Then slowly ramped it back down to finish 4 I have a dentist appointment right afterwards... So a courtesy shower is in order ...

Going mini part 3

Sunday, April 21st Told myself I'd get an early 5 in before my Sunday walk with the gals. RunningMommaOf2 planned to run with me- but Saturday night found her feeling a little puny tummy-wise Alarm went off at a most ungodly hour- quite bold I thought- being that it WAS Sunday. I leaned over to hit snooze Now- You must know- I have my clock situated so as I have to get at least one leg out of bed to prop myself like a bridge across the divide that is the space between bed and alarm. Purposeful and useful This scenario has coaxed me out of bed and awake time and time again without incident - today however- it painfully reminded me that once upon a time I ran minimal. Yep Pain is still there and strong- I think I will go back to sleep Zzzzzzzz Alarm bridge Pain Snooze Zzzzzzzxx Alarm bridge Pain Snooze By the third time I'd hit snooze, I was getting tired of the routine, and hubby was tired of the sappy country music Apparently, crooning is not hi...

Going mini part 2

Saturday, April 20th Friday night had me really feeling that morning run- My calves seemed to seize up All I could think about was foam rolling, But honestly, all I could think about was how painful foam rolling would be on top of the pain from the minimal shoe run Wow! This was intense- My hubby kept saying "You need to be careful- you don't want to injure yourself" Now- before you all say "I told you so- I told you, you needed transition slowly" Let me just say- "yes- I knew better" And Some things have to be learned the hard way I wasn't letting this insane calf cramping keep me from running over the weekend- Is there really anything better than a shake out run for muscle tightness anyway? What I really wanted was another run with friends- Saturdays are perfect for this, but lately schedules both running and non- have gotten in the way. If its not kids wrestling It's Kids baseball Or Hubby's work schedule O...

My First Attempt at Sporting THE mini

Friday April, 20th Planning a run at the park this morning A last minute text from BlueSkyGirl finds she's planning the same. We meet, and wave to ViolinRunning's orange VW bug, who got there before us- We hope to cross paths along the way, her training has her running crazy fast. Thinking I'd be on a solitary run, and a little lethargic for it- I'd worn my minies to give them a whirl My minies- Merrel Barefoot Contour Glove   (click on the link above to take you to Zappos to read more on these shoes) I'd picked them up at the Goodwill for 6$ a few months ago I know that sounds weird But they showed absolutely no sign of wear And, not knowing how I'd do with something more minimal than my flows had me not wanting to spend an arm and a leg to find out. I'd used them a day or two here and there for walking around the house... But never a run Today would be the day to do it. We started off. The run was beautiful ...
