Image
Shiprock Marathon, Saturday, May 4th Spoiler alert This will be a long post. You might want to grab a Gatorade and GU Try to pace yourself ________________________________________ Shiprock You were the one The one that made me respect the mileage of a marathon. Sure, I'd run a marathon before (read TCM race report here ) Had a blast No big deal Endorphin rush Rockstar for a day I wanted more of that Shiprock seemed the perfect choice Held on the Navajo nation Indian reservation- Made it exotic Less than an hour away Made it local I was sold Training was a bit chaotic this time around But the confidence garnered at my first marathon Made me undeterred Skittish-yes But how hard could it be? A marathon's a marathon Or so I thought A week before the race I tried to mapquest the packet pickup location I was forwarded to a website and phone number It wouldn't pull up the location on the map I call for an address to ...

"Good fences make good neighbors"

"Good fences make good neighbors"... At least that's Robert Frost's take- I always find myself reciting the phrase, whenever I see a worthy example. I threw myself into a Sunday run the other week- having lost precious training days to the flu- It had snowed a dusting of snow in the morning- and by run time after church and lunch, the only evidence of the weather's magic was left in the shadow of a country fence- Beauty in the shadow Training runs can be like fences- At times rigid and cold Utilitarian Fences for fences sake The run you take Because your chart told you to Others More ornate Picturesque Wrought iron strength and beauty Memorable That run that brought you joy because you Took the time to understand just what it brought you- be it patience, endurance, speed... Training runs, like fences Bring order No wandering kids or cows here--- But at times we chafe at the sight of a fence that seemingly holds us back-- or pens us i...

You have to be skinny, fast--- WHAT?!?! Take a hike!

I'm half afraid to write Seems of late, each time I write about a fabulous running streak The momentum dies Radio silence Not one ounce of oomph Motivation -nada But there's just so much to tell you And after a week of pure non-running exhaustion (Funny- how NOT running makes you soooo tired) The running has begun again in earnest. Writing- not so much But I will be thankful for this moment And jot a few thoughts. Mostly to those who think they- "Hate to run" "Can't run" "Used to run" "Need to loose weight to run" "Aren't fast enough to run" This post is for you- And for those of you who choose to read Even though these are not your obstacles anymore Add a comment to encourage these guys! ___________________________________ If I were honest with myself- I'm a jogger But when I'm out- I'm "running" my hardest I feel so alive, I feel invincible. The cars are ...

smart phone- loop link- tell me you've been looking for it too---

This post is written for posting on the Runner's World Loop site. I always write here... then copy and paste If you're a runner, and haven't read blogs on The Loop Check it out- It's pretty amazing. Tuesday, February 5th, I did not run today Monday night had me deciding to take Tuesday off It felt glamorous A little daring But I needed a rest. without guilt. A planned day off is glorious I've been on a fairly steady running gig of late Sorry I've been such a slug about posting You see I absolutely am jazzed about sharing The fun, that is a wordquota run Full of photos and rambling But guilt was setting in For some silly reason, Since Runner's World changed formats I couldn't find 'The Loop' with my phone The old book mark was broken Google was no help- Even the emails that brought me to your comments on my posts Had no link taking me back to yours..... Very one sided I felt a little ostentatious throwing out ...

Miserable Run, with some 'Glory Hallelujah' in the Middle

Monday, January 28th   Monday, Monday How in the world did I survive you?   So tired this morning Get hubby off to work Then flounder with getting kids up and out   "Get in the car!" "We're going to be late!" "Get in the car!"   I yell in my cheeriest mom voice   Kids scramble   I rush   Sigh   We're slow but not late for school's start   Weather   Drippy rain Wind   I round the corner to the school and see my sis-in-law Jen, Running   Eeek! So happy for her   I've got my running gear on too Was thinking to treadmill it, on account of the rain Maybe I should hurry, and try to catch up with her   Fling jeep doors open To deposit kids at school   Discover Molls forgot to put on shoes   REALLY????   How do you forget shoes?   sigh   I do the math 18 minutes home 18minutes back Oh wait I...

Run of the mill-

Tuesday, January 15th Been a good week so far Monday had 8 miles on the books Done Tuesday 5miles Done Treadmilled them I had half a mind to not even acknowledge these silly machine runs- There's something plastic about a treadmill run- But it's cold- (for NM) And I'm not in a baconator mood (I'll let ViloinRunning take that prize) And I  am  'running' Albeit humorous running when you almost fall offfffff the back - Because you misjudged just how fast an 8 minute mile is---(for me) Nothing pushes the pace better than an accelerator button- "Anybody can be fast"-(I say to myself with teenager-like lethargy) "Watch this---" (hits the arrow up) Famous last words Oh yeah- I was one of those guys I know--- You really should be sorry you missed it After a good laugh with the random stranger gal next to me, I dropped it to a more accessible pace- The chuckle was fun- Think I smiled and giggled the rest of...
